Following a Chanukah ceremony in the New Jersey Assembly chambers yesterday, Acting Governor Richard Codey joined Rabbi Moshe Herson, Dean of the Rabbinical College of America and Philip Levine of Flemington, in a mechanical lift to kindle the 16-foot Chanukah menorah at the steps of the New Jersey State House.

“This marks the 24th year that this menorah is being lit here with the participation of governors from both sides of the aisle,” Rabbi Herson said.

Hon. Linda Greenstein, Assemblyperson of the 14th NJ District, served as MC.

A musical rendition, consisting of a medley of popular Chanukah songs, was led by Rabbi Mendy Solomon of Chabad of Short Hills.

Participants included members of the Governor’s Cabinet, the New Jersey State Legislature, Chabad-Lubavitch regional directors from the College’s 41 New Jersey centers and members of the general public.

Joining the Governor with the kindling of the menorah was Philip Levine, of Life & Health Insurance, Flemington.
