Fair Lawn, NJ: Town Council voted 4-1 in favor of the inclusion of a Menorah in its holiday Display. This ends over 20 years of petitioning the the municipal government for the inclusion of a Menorah for a town with a 40-45% Jewish population.
Rabbi Levi Neubort of Anshei Lubavitch of Fair Lawn, had been spearheading the the public menorah efforts for the past 5 years. He was successful in getting a public hearing held on the matter a few weeks ago in which residents and religious leaders spoke their feelings. Tonight's vote allows the citizens of Fair Lawn to be equally represented in Borough's Holiday Display.
In the council sessions closing remarks, Rabbi Neubort exclaimed, "When I began this Menorah campaign 5 years ago, I had a goal to make a young child proud to be Jewish. Today I stand before you as a young Rabbi proud to be American."
